Differences in material drying?

What's the difference between a clean water and black water?

There are three types of water damages. They used to range from clean, gray, and black water. The new standard is categorizes them into three numbers.

  • Category 1 - is a water damage from a clean water source, i.e., a supply line. Water that does not have contaminates.
  • Category 2 - comes from your dishwasher, washing machine, or overhead. This water has some contaminates but nothing your home didn't already have in it.
  • Category 3 - is grossly contaminated water. It may carry viruses, bacteria, or even mold. Outside flood water, having mold growth, or a sewer back up is considered a category 3 water damage.
